2017 Neuroscience Travel Awards


Bellevue, WA / Cambridge, MA – August 2nd, 2017: DRVISION and Interstellate launched today the “2017 Neuroscience Travel Award”. The new award aims to highlight, support and honor examples of outstanding imaging prowess in the field of neuroscience. High quality 3D cellular imaging allows neuroscientists to learn how different neuron types connect to one another, how they transfer information, create memories and allow us to interpret the world around us. A clearer picture of how neurons and neuron circuits develop and function will help scientists better understand brain related disorders such as autism, schizophrenia, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and others.


The top three candidates will receive a stipend (total value of $600 USD) towards the cost of attending a major neuroscience conference in 2017. In addition, the awardees will see their submitted 3D microscopy images featured in the upcoming Volume 2 of Interstellate.

The winners of the award will be announced on the first day of the annual meeting of the Society for Neuroscience (11th-15th of November 2017) which will take place in Washington, DC.

The awardees will be selected by the combined vote of the public and the judging panel which is composed of Michael Angelakos (Passion Pit front man, mental health advocate), Dana Simmons (neuroscientist and artist), Dr. Hamed Mirzaei (scientist and founder), Anne Martin (neuroscientist and designer), Samantha Yammine (neuroscientist and scicomm advocate), Dr. Uri Manor (biophotonics expert, microscopist, scientist and photographer), Dr. Luciano Lucas (award co-promoter, scientist, microscopy technology expert, AI and VR), Caitlin Vander Weele (award co-promoter, neuroscientist, Interstellate founder and curator).
